By definition, salsa is neither a genre nor a specific musical rhythm. It is, quite simply, a name given to the tropical dance music created by the Fania All Stars at the end of the 1970s. It unites different Cuban rhythms, such as mambo, son, rumba and cha cha ch‡. Today the term is used by Puerto Ricans, Colombians and Cubans, and is part of a wider Latin music movement around the world. "Salsa de Cuba" brings together the best examples of Cuban salsa, from Adalberto Alvarez to La Charanga Habanera, part of the new generation of Cuban musicians exploring the traditional son and the timba cubana-the new term for all salsa music created in Cuba today. 01.
