Presence
Steven Soderbergh’s latest film, Presence, follows a family that becomes convinced they are not alone after moving into their new home in the suburbs.
Zack Ryan, the composer behind the score, brings a refreshing approach to the supernatural thriller genre. In a film where the camera represents the point of view of a ghost, Zack’s score steers away from typical genre conventions like jump-scare music and instead focuses on the emotional depth of the story—grief, loss, and familial dysfunction.
Of the score, Zack adds “If you’re given the opportunity to work with David Koepp and Steven Soderbergh, you immediately say yes. And if they ask for a traditional, melodic orchestral score for their modern haunted house story, you say yes again. It was an incredible thrill to contribute to a film that takes such a bold swing at reinventing the genre. I’m very excited for audiences to experience it.”
Presence is now playing exclusively in theaters.
