This month’s Composer Spotlight guest is Ilan Eshkeri, composer of the Ghost of Tsushima video game soundtrack! To bring the sounds of 13th-century Japan to a modern audience, Ilan delved deep into era’s history, incorporating a variety of traditional instruments to reflect the Samurai culture and emotional tension that are central to the game’s narrative.
Of his playlist selections, Ilan says:
When I composed the Ghost of Tsushima score, I was inspired by the incredible musicians I worked with and the traditional Japanese and Mongolian music they performed. This playlist is a thank you to them. It features examples of their work followed by a piece where I have featured them so that the listener can share in my journey from inspiration to finished work from the Ghost of Tsushima soundtrack.
