Sleep Awake Music By Robin Finck
From the minds of veteran game designer Cory Davis (Spec Ops: The Line) and longtime Nine Inch Nails guitarist Robin Finck comes Sleep Awake, a new first-person psychedelic horror game set in the far future. In the last known city on Earth, people are disappearing in their sleep. Those who remain exist in a crisis of reckless experiments to keep awake. Katja must navigate depraved death cults, otherworldly forces, and the ever-present horror of The HUSH, to save herself and those who rely upon her.
Sleep Awake‘s immersive, first-person descent into psychedelic horror inspired Finck—who serves as both the game’s composer and co‑creative director alongside Davis at EYES OUT—to craft a visceral soundscape to accompany Katja’s journey as she moves through an ever‑crumbling reality. Blending brooding guitar motifs, immersive synth passages and evolving rhythmic pulses, the soundtrack is teeming with ominous tension and hypnotic transcendence, capturing the game’s emotional and existential depths and stylistic inventiveness.
For the soundtrack’s assembly, Finck undertook the monumental task of transforming hundreds of in-game stems and looping cues into a fully realized album experience. Working closely with former Nine Inch Nails member and fellow composer Charlie Clouser throughout the mixing process, Finck reimagined these fragments into complete compositions, adding bespoke intros and outros, carving transitions, and layering new sonic textures to create a cohesive listening experience that elevates the game’s dynamic audio into a cinematic record. Drawing from early desert recording sessions and years of iterative exploration, the soundtrack preserves the unsettling atmosphere of Sleep Awake while evolving into something new—an immersive soundscape that heightens the game’s atmospheric intensity and surreal narrative.
Of the soundtrack, Robin Finck says, “Assembling the album was a monumental task for me. My greatest creative challenge here was to create a listening experience that lives outside the gameplay but still retains a vibe and flow of traveling through storied experiences. I’ve been scratching into every dark corner of audio without the support of the narrative and visual design. Sometimes I’d feel like I’m at the bottom of a well, but then I’m able to re-approach, re-arrange, and re-build and end up with something wholly new and exciting, inspired by parts, but now living as some new Frankenstein that seems to really be alive and wanting to leap off the table. Both the gameplay audio and the album audio grew up under the same roof, but this album experience has packed its bags and is leaving home for the great unknown.”
The first release from arthouse gaming studio EYES OUT, SLEEP AWAKE is available now for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S from Blumhouse Games.
