From the producers of Get Out and BlacKkKlansman, Antebellum is a mind-bending thriller starring singer-songwriter, rapper, actress and producer Janelle Monáe. The film tells the story of successful author Veronica Henley, who finds herself trapped in a horrifying reality that forces her to confront the past, present and future – before it’s too late.
Composed by multihyphenate artists, musicians and producers Nate “Rocket” Wonder and Roman GianArthur, the score marks the duo’s first ever film as lead composers. Both frequent collaborators of Monáe and members of her Wondaland Arts Society, Wonder and GianArthur combine darkly dramatic, orchestral strings with contemporary textures and influences to soundtrack the film’s nightmarish narrative. Upon its release, the score received critical acclaim from Consequence of Sound, FLOOD, Essence, PopMatters and more, with Brooklyn Vegan calling it a “shiver-inducing, suspense-ridden symphony.”
